Dal Lake is the most famous among the many lakes around the city. It is noted for its houseboats called Shikaras. The city is famous for its Mughal gardens, Chashma Shahi (the royal fountains), Pari Mahal (the palace of the fairies), Nishat Bagh (the garden of spring), Shalimar Bagh, the Naseem Bagh , Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical garden etc.

Gulmarg is the heartland of winter sports in India and was rated as Asia's seventh best ski destination. The journey to Gulmarg itself is fascinating as the road climbs uphill in the last 12 kilometres passing through forests of pine and fir.

Pahalgam (village of shepherds) is a popular tourist destination and hill station. Its lush green meadows and pristine waters attract thousands of tourists from all over the world each year. Pahalgam is associated with the annual pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra.

BetabValley is a favorite campsite of travelers and also serves as a base camp for trekking and further exploration of the mountains. The valley is at walk-able distance from Pahalgam.

Aru Valley is a famous tourist place in Jammu & Kashmir located around 12 kilometers from Pahalgam. Tourists are attracted towards it because of its lush meadows, pristine lakes & mountains, and it also serves as a base camp for trekking to the Kolahoi Glacier and Tarsar Lake.

Chandanwari is famous for being the base, or starting point, to the famous pilgrimage site, Amarnath temple.
